Honda S2000 Repairs are not that difficult to do. If you’re clutch master cylinder on your Honda has decided to break or malfunction then you can actually replace or repair it yourself with no need to go to an expensive mechanic. You can do this with the help of a friend in around three hours and the parts should cost less than one hundred US Dollars. You will need some tools in order to do this which are listed below:
- Needle Nosed Pliers
- 10 Millimeter Open Ended Wrench
- 12 Millimeter Deep Socket (with Small Extension)
- Crank Wrench from MasterCraft
First things first: You will need to remove the throttle cable stay as this will make every a lot easier to start with. You can opt to leave it in place, but only if you think you are going to have enough sufficient room to work with the car. Now you can get started properly and the best way to do this is to place a bunch of old newspaper underneath the clutch master cylinder – this will help to soak up and leaks and fluid that might come out as you work. It’s good to keep things tidy as you go – so don’t skip this bit.
Now you can remove the reservoir cap and suck-out as much of the fluid as you possibly can. After that go and crack loose the holding nut that connects the fluid-line into the left hand part of the clutch master cylinder (CMC) – making sure that you don’t do this all the way – because we do this in order to stop any fluid from dribbling out until you are ready to fully remove the CMC.
You will now need to grab a hold on the big looped end of the pin that you see coming out – you can do this with the needle nosed pliers referred to earlier as you push the pin even further inside until it un-seats the curved end bit. Once you done this give it a twist no more than ninety degrees – you can then easily pull it all the way out. Once you come to re-installing the pin, you just push it straight back in with ease.
The next steps involve removing the cotter pin and simultaneously pushing out the larger pin and the entire rod assembly so it completely detaches apart from the clutch pedal. You can now remove the nuts that are connecting the CMC into the firewall. Make sure you don’t let go of the nuts as it’s possible to lose them down the back of the kick panel and these are really hard to get back out again.
It’s now possible to go back in and pull the CMC out. Unscrew the nuts that are holding the S2000 fluid-line to make this a lot easier. And that’s it – your clutch master cylinder is now out and you can reverse the process in order to place the new one in.
The whole process should take no longer than three hours and will mean you don’t need to spend any money on an expensive mechanic. Please note that a small degree of mechanical-mindedness is required, but if you have a friend to help you then it should be a lot easier.
