No More Tech-Headaches! As a teacher, I routinely asked the same question to gathered groups of students: Why won't this printer work? In any educational institution these days, computers and printers are everywhere and used by everyone, leading to regular breakdowns and technology induced headaches. My solution is the Canon Pixma ip100, a personal, Portable Laptop Printer.
The printer itself is only slightly longer than a sheet of paper (roughly 13" x 7", and about 2.5" thick), meaning it fits in a laptop case, backpack or any other container I was already carrying for my supplies. All I need to do was keep a folder with some printer paper handy, and I am ready for students needing printouts and printers needing replacement everywhere I go!
One of its most handy features is connectivity. A standard USB cable will connect this printer to any laptop (or desktop, if the classroom printer is on the fritz), and that slot is versatile enough to take many other devices. That's right, there's yet another use for those little USB storage drives we have to carry everywhere.
This printer even does wireless connections! With Bluetooth and IrDA receptors, this printer can take orders from a phone, PDA or other compatible device. This is especially handy when students can't seem to print their work but have it saved on a nearby device. Finally, I don't have to change due dates or accept late work just because the printer did not want to work!
At just about $250 (brand new, from Canon), this may seem like an expensive fix to a common problem. However, the loss of frustration over technology issues goes a long way. For those of us who tutor or teach at multiple locations, this can be a real relief when we don't need to worry about carrying around a suitcase full of copies "just in case." Now, I just keep my worksheets, tests and quizzes, notes and other useful files on my laptop or USB drive and print when I need to, all thanks to this wonderful, portable printer!
