Any new parent can relate to the perceived need to save every penny, buying only the cheapest baby accessories in order to stretch the dollar further than it ever has been before. While this feeling is understandable, it's wise to mix that sense of frugality with a sensible investment in the future. That means that sometimes you may want to spend a few more dollars right of the bat so that you can save a lot of money in repairs and replacement costs down the road. There's nothing wrong with wanting to find a baby car seat cheap, so long as you know what to look for. Whatever cheap car seat you decide to go with, here are a few things to look for:
Adjustable From the Front
You could probably save a lot of money by going with a model of car seat that adjusts from the back. I'm here to tell you that it's not worth the hassle, and that it's better to spend a little more on a nicer model that allows you to adjust from the front. Over time, you will get more and more fed up with having to cram your hands behind the seat in order to carefully thread the belt through a narrow hole, securing the car seat to the car, itself. Even better, do yourself a favor and go with a seat that uses the LATCH system - just make sure that your car is properly outfitted with LATCH anchors!
Ease of Use
This one is pretty simple: Fewer useless features will result in a more straightforward product. If you are looking to save money on a car seat, you'll especially want to do your research and find one that doesn't have a ridiculous amount of bells and whistles. It goes without saying, but the most important thing here is the safety and well being of your child, so any money should be directed toward a product that complies with well-vetted safety standards.
A Car Seat Should be Easy to Clean!
This is one that not very many people properly consider before plunking down their hard earned money on a car seat. It's so easy to overlook the fact that anything that is related to child care is going to get dirty pretty often. One of the most endearing (and occasionally frustrating) things about an infant is the tendency to spill food in spectacular ways. Keeping this firmly in mind, make sure that the product you choose doesn't have an inordinate amount of nooks and crannies for food chunks to get stuck in. I would personally look for something with easily removable cushions that can be hosed off and quickly dried.
