If you live in hurricane territory, then you are aware that the season usually begins in early June, peaks in September, and ends in late November. A hurricane is an act of nature that causes horrendous damage to property and also takes a toll in the lives of those in its wake. People who know the extent of the damage a hurricane can cause usually know how to hurricane-proof their homes as best they can. But, sometimes they forget about their vehicles. You should always park you vehicles inside a structure if possible. If that isn't possible, park the vehicle on high ground where there are no trees or any kind of utility poles. You want to know what is covered and what is not before the worst happens.
When you check your auto insurance policy, make sure you have comprehensive coverage. If you're still paying a lender for the money owe on a vehicle, you should have GAP coverage. Also, towing would be a good idea because if your car was damaged, it would have to be towed to the auto repair shop.
Remember, don't wait until a month or two before hurricane season to check your insurance policy and ask your insurance company to add any of the above-mentioned options. They might not let you add on coverages so close to the beginning of hurricane season.
