Do you have a desire to make this year's Christmas scenes a little more peaceful? A little quieter?
Most people enjoy the winter holidays, but precious few of them look forward to going shopping. Heck, even if you're a die hard shopper who loves hitting the malls, finding the perfect present at a steal, Christmas can still feel like a real challenge.
So do yourself a favor this year. Get your Christmas shopping done early.
As soon as the kids are back in school, make a date with yourself - or a good friend - to go shopping. Start by creating a list of everyone that you plan to purchase a gift for. Double check this list - you don't want to forget anyone. Make sure you've got every last uncle and cousin!
When your list of names is complete, it's time to move onto the gifts. What should everyone get? Be generous here. The more ideas you can get down the less thinking you'll have to do when you're actually in the store.
And then? You got it - start your shopping! You can do it online if you like. A lot of retailers begin advertising their Christmas specials pretty early in the year. They want to get a sense of what's going to be hot and what isn't. If you're smart and look for deals, you can really score some great gifts at this stage.
Of course, there's no reason to sit in front of a computer if you don't want to. If you're partial to actual physical shopping, then by all means get out to the malls! Once the back to school shopping is done, the stores tend to quiet down a bit. Try going on a Monday morning. You'll hear the crickets! And remind yourself that this is actual holiday shopping!
Of course, it might not seem like Christmas shopping. After all, there aren't red and green streamers everywhere. And where are all the Christmas trees? The Santa Clauses ringing bells for charity?
Don't fall into that trap! Remember that those Christmas decorations don't come without hordes of shoppers and irritated sales people!
And best of all? When Christmas finally does roll around, you can get all the spirit you want at home. Look at the wrapped presents and be thankful for the quiet and peace of your own home!
