Perhaps you’ve been teased all your life about what a neat freak you are.  You can’t stand when things are a mess and you feel a compulsion to clean things up right away.  As the saying goes, “whatever rocks your boat”.  Some people would find this obsession a curse while others find it a blessing.  It all depends on your viewpoint and how you channel your energy.

Domestic house cleaning jobs might have not been on your radar as a career choice but it should be.  This is not meant to be a joke in any way but employers value workers who have attention to cleaning detail.  Whereas others would view your tidiness as being overly nitpicky, these are job strengths in the cleaning business.

Also, don’t be fooled that just because a job cleaning houses is deemed to be manual labor that there is no career growth in it.  This is very much contrary to popular opinion as a lot of people start their own cleaning companies and become employers in their own right by hiring legions of cleaners to service the city all over.  This might be your end goal to eventually become an entrepreneur.

However, to become an effective house cleaning business owner, you need to go through the trenches yourself and understand the trials and tribulations a domestic cleaner goes through.  You should start by getting a few customers to get a feel as to the standards of cleaning customers are looking for.  You might think of yourself as a neat freak but perhaps there are people even more exacting than you.   It is fine to be very thorough and to please customers, but you also have to be aware of time schedules and how it affects the bottom line and be paid accordingly to the service.

The ideal person who would do well in a cleaning career is one who enjoys putting things in order but also one who can manage their time efficiently.  Perhaps this is you?

  4. Thoroughly agree with the sentiments expressed. As a cleaning company operating throughout the UK we are constantly in search of good cleaners and they are very difficult to find. Having found one it is a good idea to reward them well so that you can retain them. A good cleaner is one that can see the problems and deal with them as a matter of course without having to have every aspect of their cleaning down in tick boxes.
