The CFP 90 Military Backpack

The CFP 90 is the U.S. military’s largest combat backpack. The CFP 90 Military Woodland Field Backpack and Patrol is the backpack portion of the Individual Integrated Fighting System. The IIFS was developed as a substitute for the All- Purpose Lightweight Individual Carrying Equipment. The IIFS uses the theory of a tactical load-carrying vest instead of shoulder-harness suspenders with individual equipment belt design. With the suspender and belt system the full weight of the load was carried by a rifleman’s back. The idea behind a load-carrying vest is that the total weight of equipment that is carried by a rifleman will be evenly spread over the entire body.

The CFP 90 was created for cold weather operations. This backpack can hold your sleeping bag, bulky clothing and whatever else you require for long range patrolling. The CFP 90 Backpack is made of back-coated nylon Cordura fabric. This has superior water repellency as well as the ultimate in abrasion resistance.

There are two main areas in the CFP 90; the main compartment and the sleeping bag compartment. There is a false bottom in the main compartment which can be used when a sleeping bag is not needed. On the outer part of the backpack there is a long tunnel pocket as well as two small cargo pockets. These use compression straps to fasten items. There are 2 ¼” webbing loops and 1” webbing loops located in the backpack to be used as equipment attachment points.

The backpacks internal frame is constructed of two removable aluminum staves which run from top to bottom. It has an adjustable suspension system allowing for maximum comfort. The CFP 90 has a lower back padding for comfort. This is made of open cell foam. On top of this is padding made of closed cell foam which aids in stability and gives a good recovery following compression.

The CFP 90 field backpack and the smaller CFP 90 combat backpack can be used together and easily taken apart with two quick-release straps. When used with either the tactical load-carrying vest or the ammunition carrying vest shoulder pads can be worn. These are kept securely in place with two 1” strips of webbing.

The CFP 90 is the ultimate in military backpacks. It has a capacity of 6590 cubic inches, weighs just over 8 pounds, is made to relieve stress and tension and is easy to assemble or disassemble wherever you might be.
