Everyone knows that kids love Halloween. It is not difficult to understand why! It is essentially the one night of the year where we allow our kids to run around the neighborhood acting crazy and having a good time. Why is it that we do not allow ourselves to have just as much fun? Halloween actually provides us a great excuse to break out of our comfort zone and live out a few of our fantasies without worrying about what our friends and family might think.

Sexy Halloween costumes are a great way to let loose but what happens when we do not have the confidence, or the body, to dress in a ultra short cheerleader outfit? Not everyone wants to dress so sugary sweet! One extremely popular costume alternative is to dress in a 1920s inspired flapper girl costume.

Flapper style dresses were first introduced during the early part of the roaring twenties. These amazing outfits continue to be popular today and can often be seen on runways in London and Paris.

A stereotypical flapper dress costume consists of a few common design characteristics. Most flapper dresses tend to be rather short. They tend to be knee-length, at most, and are typically accented with layers upon layers of free flowing fringe. Many flapper dresses are also include heavily applied sequins that sparkle and shine as the flapper girl dances her way through the club.

The drop waist appearance and the square, almost shapeless design give these dresses a boyish feel to them. This does not, however, mean that these women were not sexy. Flapper style dresses are, in fact, some of the most attractive clothes ever produced. Women of all shapes and sizes can pull off these outfits wonderfully. Full figured women can even strap down their chest area to further accentuate the overall look to this classic costume.

Add a little excitement to your Halloween this year and dress in a 1920s inspired flapper costume!

New definitions of American femininity were formed in the pivotal 1920s, an era that vastly expanded the "market" for sexually explicit displays by women. Angela J. Latham shows how quarrels over and censorship of women's performance -- particularly in the arenas of fashion and theater -- uniquely reveal the cultural idiosyncracies of the period and provide valuable clues to the developing iconicity of the female body in its more recent historical phases...
