The drying method depends on the manufacturer instructions. Some brands offer silica gel that changes color when it needs to be dried. There are other non-electrical dehumidifiers that contain salts or other moisture absorbing materials.
Electric closet dehumidifiers are also available for closets or small spaces with an electrical outlet. Most have a reservoir that holds the absorbed water and is emptied when full. The humidifier automatically shuts off when the reservoir is full and an indicator light turns to alert you that it has to be emptied.
