A closet dehumidifier absorbs moisture from closets and other enclosed areas.  Closets have very little ventilation making them vulnerable to dampness and musty odors. Moisture causes mold and mildew to develop on clothing, sheets and other objects.  Even if the environment is not humid, damp sheets or clothing stored in an enclosed closet can create a welcome environment for mold and mildew.  Closet dehumidifiers will keep closets and storage areas free from moisture build-up.

Keep Mildew Away With A Closet Dehumidifier

Most closet dehumidifiers do not require electricity making them ideal for enclosed spaces.  They contain the crystallized silica gel to absorb moisture and keep the air dry.  The gel is odorless and not even seen since the dehumidifier keeps it enclosed. Depending on the type, they can be hung, mounted or placed on a shelf.

Silica gel humidifiers are a very economical option because they can be re-used.  Once they are saturated with moisture, the silica can be removed and dried in the sun or in a low temperature oven.  The drying method depends on the manufacturer instructions.  Some brands offer silica gel that changes color when it needs to be dried.  There are other non-electrical dehumidifiers that contain salts or other moisture absorbing materials.

Electric closet dehumidifiers are also available for closets or small spaces with an electrical outlet.  Most have a reservoir that holds the absorbed water and is emptied when full.  The humidifier automatically shuts off when the reservoir is full and an indicator light turns to alert you that it has to be emptied.

There are different sizes of humidifiers for closets.  Make sure to purchase one that is appropriate for the square footage of the space.

A closet dehumidifier protects clothing, papers and  any other types of belongings that are kept in enclosed spaces.   It is worth purchasing one before personal items are ruined by mildew.
