If you travel with your dog there may be times when you want, or need to take a portable kennel or pen along with you. If your dog will be spending any amount of time in his pen you may also want to invest in some type of portable kennel flooring to take with you. There are several different options, all usually fairly satisfactory at adding a layer of protection between your dog and the ground and easy to transport.

Instant kennel flooring is one such option. It is anchored to the ground by small pegs that go through grommet holes into the ground. This type of flooring can remain taut if it is put down properly and it is comfortable for your dog to lie down on. It is also fairly inexpensive and wraps up into a smallish bundle when not in use.

Some people like to lay down rubber mats. These are also fairly lightweight and not too difficult to transport. If you are taking your dog on a camping trip, you can often line the floor of your trailer or the trunk of a car with them and sit your other boxes and equipment on top. One con with rubber matting is that some dogs find it extremely fun to gnaw on the edges and a bored dog left in a pen with this type of flooring can soon do a fair amount of damage. If your dog does not bother with chewing and he is unlikely to attack the edges of the matting, this is also a great alternative.

Modular kennel flooring is also an option. These can be found in 2 ½ x 2 ½ feet sizes and are made to interlock together. They are slightly bulky to travel with but if you do have space to slip the pieces in somewhere they are probably the best and most comfortable type of portable kennel flooring there is.

All of these different options are available online, and most are fairly reasonably priced. If you do travel with your dog a lot, it is a great idea to look into buying one of these types of flooring to ensure your dog is both comfortable and safe in his home-away-from-home.
