At some point in our lives we have all probably experienced the thrill of speed in some form another. It could have been at the county fair on a death-defying ride or on the freeway riding in a convertible car speeding down the road with the wind blowing through our hair, illegally of course. In any form, speed is exhilarating but in the form of driving on the roads of our nation with other cars around us, it is in its deadliest form. Speeding has always been a problem since the introduction of the first autos. Even though they couldn’t go as fast as today’s car people still pushed them to their limits.

This is why speed limits were introduced along with the fuel crisis during President Nixon’s term. At that time the speed limit was established at 55 miles per hour. This speed limit did not go over very well with the owners of vehicles that could go way over that speed limit easily. So, after a lot of legislation and people’s complaints the speed limit on most freeways was upped to 65 miles per hour. Still, that isn’t fast enough for people who love speed and that is why there are so many speeding tickets issued and why so many horrible auto accidents are caused by speeders.

Statistics have been put together realizing the relationship between speed and accidents that show that speeding is definitely a very dangerous habit to have. Not only is this a bad habit and can lead to higher General auto insurance rates, but the potential harm that other passengers and drivers are put in is horrible. If you speed you are putting yourself and everyone around in jeopardy because it decreases your ability to slow down or stop to avoid an accident. Accidents are always a bad thing to happen to anyone, but when speed is involved the severity of the accident and the injuries and damages involved are usually increased substantially.

If you have ever gotten a speeding ticket you are aware of just how costly they can be and sometimes you could even have your license revoked depending on how fast you were going. Along with those things, you can bet that your insurance premium will increase by up to 50%. So, is speeding really worth all the negative things it can cause, injury, property damage, points on your driving record, or no driving for a long period of time? There is no place that you could be going that could be more important than your life or the lives of others.

If you still feel the need to speed you could move to some of the states that have a 75 mile per hour speed limit. These are about twelve states that have increased their speed limit in unpopulated areas. Arizona was one of the first and most of these states are located in the south western or middle portion of the United States. Something to consider when speeding is that getting a ticket will make it hard for auto insurance discounters to make a significant difference in automotive protection savings.
