Anyone who spends any amount of time outdoors in the summer, or even the winter for that matter, knows that glasses can add a negative element to your experience. Hot summer days seem even hotter with the added weight on your nose and the sweat causing your frames to slid down your nose requiring you to have to continually push them up or swimming blind, because lets face it, your glasses are not something you can take swimming. In the winter with your hands full hurrying into the house you run in the door only to be struck blind by the instant fog that hits your lenses when you walk into a warmer area.
Contact lenses offer you the freedom to do all the above mentioned activities without a second thought and an added benefit, peripheral vision. Most of us lose peripheral vision when we are saddled with the news that we will be required to wear glasses making driving and even sports a little more difficult.
Even astigmatism can be corrected with contact lenses and with all the advances in contact lenses they are very comfortable and can be worn for long periods. Only your eye doctor can decide whether your a good candidate for contacts and a yearly check up is important.
There is a downside to contact lenses in that without proper care you are at a high risk for eye infections. Failing to keep good care of your lenses and following proper hygiene with contacts can also lead to corneal ulcers or abrasions. It's not hard to see the benefits much outweigh the risks, but in the end its all up to the individual consumer.
