Why Metal Canopy Beds Don’t Work

Can anyone explain to me why some people seem to think it's a good idea to try everything, if only to prove that some things can't work? There's a reason why people love canopy beds and canopy bed linens and it's because it reminds them of a times gone by. They have romantic overtones of medieval days and kings and queens. The canopy bed or four poster does not lend itself so readily to the futuristic world of minimalist furniture and it certainly looks like a pile of rubbish if you try and make a canopy frame out of metal. What's sensual about black metal posts? Nothing at all is the answer.

Metal Canopy beds, in my opinion defeat the whole purpose of owning one of these beds in the first place. I should add that I did once see a very elegant antique canopy bed fashioned from metal but this was the exception that proves the rule. It was an extremely old piece that had clearly been made decades ago, hand crafted with real style. It was an expensive antique piece and a far cry from the modern mass produced beds available today. Today's metal canopy beds are factory produced with the minimum of creative design. The look is basic and uninspiring and they are clearly spray painted which means they scuff up really easily.

Oh well I guess there's very little new under the sun anymore and so designers seem to feel obliged to try everything even when it's futile. If you want one of these beds then there's nothing wrong with going for a modern design but please choose on made out of wood. Wood is such a warmer material for the bedroom and so much easier to incorporate with other aspects of your home. If you can't afford one made from wood then maybe you should abandon the idea of a canopy bed all together.
