Caring For Discount Carpet Remnants

A great alternative to purchasing rugs, discount carpet remnants can also to be used to replace carpet in a single room, as opposed to replacing carpet in an entire house. While each piece’s size can vary, carpet remnants are first-quality pieces of carpet that cannot be used on an installation job because they: a) are scrap pieces left over from a previous installation, b) are pre-cut pieces left over from a canceled order, or c) the amount left on the roll is too small to cover an entire home. Depending on retailer, carpet remnants can be purchased up to 50% off, and for smaller quantities of an in-stock remnant, with extremely limited availability, prices can be as much as 80% off the original retail price. One word of caution though, if interested in purchasing discount carpet remnants, always make sure you have flexible plans, as there may not be enough of your first choice available to complete the installation job.

Once the carpet is purchased, depending on its use and function, it can be cared for in the same manner your other carpet is maintained. If using smaller remnants to serve as carpet runners and/or carpet squares, in order to prevent fraying, the ends will need to be bound. If left untreated, carpet fibers and under-binding will continue to come off; eventually destroying the quality of your remnant. Smaller carpet remnants will also require a bit more care when vacuuming. Because they are not anchored down, small carpet remnants may get caught in the vacuum’s suction. To solve this problem, try vacuuming the piece with an attachment or a small, hand-held vacuum.

To remove stains, follow the manufacturer’s recommendations regarding stain removal. Never put the remnant in a washing machine, as it could come unraveled. For other carpet care help, be sure to visit your carpet manufacturer’s website for instructions and common care questions.
