Advanced Lithium Ion Battery Technology
We have all seen the way simple 18650 rechargeable batteries or a 18650 battery pack can work to provide ample charge to the electronic devices we use in daily life. Many leading brands have been manufacturing the 18650 rechargeable battery which are Lithium ion batteries providing stable performance and a reliable energy density. But there is one more aspect of this technology than just laptops and PDAs. Hybrid cars are something that can also benefit from the high energy density Lithium batteries. But there are some thing used in this battery which makes it too expensive to be used commercially in cars as yet. This is why many technological advancements and researches are being made to introduce a more satisfactory Lithium battery.
The Argonne national laboratory is a part of the US department of Energy and has been working on advanced Lithium batteries for a long time now. They have come up with some major solutions when it comes to high energy storage capacity of the batteries. Now the company’s patented composite cathode materials formula has been formulated and the world wide licensing agreement has been signed with the world’s largest chemical company BASF. This is a positive step in the development of these batteries which will complete revolutionize the electronics industry and of course hybrid car manufacturers who have been looking for such a solution. The Ohio facility of the BASF Company will keep on working further on this technology to provide better Lithium batteries.
There is also the launch of a large cathode material production facility announced which is to be erected in Elyria, Ohio. Argonne has been working on developing many technologies for the Vehicle Technologies Program started by the US Department of Energy. Many new inventions and patents were produced and developed and there is more research being conducted for proper commercialization of this product. These new batteries which will work with the new cathode materials are going to be incredibly cost efficient and will also provide a higher energy density for even high power electronic vehicles. Not only that but they will also be completely safe for use in car manufacturing and mass production. There is a good chance these batteries will completely take over the previously used technology since even the previously used Lithium batteries were so popular and perfect for use in appliances.
The vehicle industry will certainly be looking forward to a brighter future as BASF will be advancing this technology even further and make these batteries even more practical and affordable which is the only way the technology can attract the right consumers. This will also be a great boost to the goal of the US President to have a million hybrid cars with the plug in mechanism to roam the roads by the year 2015. Not only will all this raise the economy, this will also be a way to create more jobs for the people. This way this advancement could actually affect energy security and economic competitiveness to have a better quality of life.
